Dentures, also known as false teeth, are used to replace missing teeth. Dentures in Los Angeles are considered to be an excellent form of restorative dentistry and help patients restore the natural and confident appearance of their smiles. In some cases, dentures are made to replace some missing teeth, while other dentures work to replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth. Dentures near you can be made from nylon, metal, or acrylic material. At Nima Ebrahimi DDS, we are happy to provide our patients with dentures to enhance their quality of life and boost their self-esteem.

Common Types of Dentures

It may surprise you to find out that there are a couple of forms of this restorative dentistry treatment to choose from. There are three main types of dentures:

  • Complete dentures: people who have lost all of their teeth will be eligible for complete dentures. These are bonded to a plate that is placed on top of the gums. They are typically placed 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been extracted.
  • Partial dentures: these are recommended for patients who still have some of their healthy teeth remaining in their upper and lower jaw. They are connected to a pink-colored base that supports the denture in your mouth. These are removable, making them easy to clean.
  • Immediate dentures: these are the only dentures that can be applied the same day that teeth are extracted.

What is the Process for Getting Dentures?

Getting dentures takes a few weeks and multiple visits to Nima Ebrahimi DDS. Once your periodontist in Los Angeles determines which type of denture is best for you, they will make a series of impressions of your jaw to make your customized dentures. You will then have several “try-in” appointments where your periodontist near you will adjust your denture multiple times until the final denture is created to precisely fit your mouth and be ready to go.
You may require some follow-up appointments to adjust your dentures further as your mouth adjusts to them.

How to Maintain Your Dentures

Our mouths are full of helpful and harmful bacteria, so it is important to continue maintaining excellent oral hygiene even if you do not have your natural teeth any longer. You must clean your gums with a soft-bristled toothbrush and warm water and toothpaste at least twice a day. Additionally, you need to brush your dentures twice daily to remove any food debris and plaque. You can either use warm water and mild soap or a denture cleaning solution provided by your periodontist. Your dentures are more fragile than your natural teeth, so it is a good idea to clean them over a folded towel to ensure that they do not break if you accidentally drop them while brushing.

When you sleep, remove your dentures to allow your gums to rest and heal. Soak your dentures overnight to ensure that they do not dry out.
